Why Mothership Zeta is awesome

I think it says everything which needs to be said that I think this is the greatest of the Far Cry games.

I consider Mothership Zeta the same way.

And exactly that is the problem, you can not be a Fallout fan AND like MZ. You can either be a Fallout fan or like MZ. but not both.

That's like saying that you love exquisite cuisine, while eating shit at the same time.

Ha, I'm not sure how to respond to this because I actually like the first one the best and that wasn't the most serious of the Far Cry games. I do prefer Far Cry 2's atmosphere though, as flawed as it is it has something none of the others had.

*sigh*

Phipps, you seem like a genuinely pleasant person but I HATE all of your opinions. I wish you well.

I am sort of the odd duck around here, aren't I? :)

Fallout is a many faceted beast.

I love being a New Reno Porn Star having sex with the Bishop women.

I also love the deep and moving meditation on war's futility.

And blowing up aliens and Enclave scientists.

I love Howard the Duck and Jaws unleashed.

ehhhh... well designed though? whereas zeta is a generic corridor shooter I'd also claim that OWB would be a generic open world shooter were it not for its characters and writing. I mean that DLC really is just fetch quests and shooting.
It is, but it was more fun to explore

No, actually it isn't. At the bottom Fallout is pretty simple really, when it comes to RPGs. Fallout wasn't the first cRPG that emulated PnP mechanics - sort of. And it wasn't the first game that had some silly easer eggs here and there and it was not the first game with a lot of choices and consequences or with turn based combat. Fallout, was always the sum of it's part. But at the end of the day, it wasn't really something that was extremly complex or intriguing to say it that way. And you mentioned Fallout 2, which was kinda over the top with a lot of things, still a good RPG, but it already started to dilute what Fallout was meant to be, particularly with New Reno and the many silly easter eggs of which even the developers agreed that it was to much.

Right, because the original Fallout is the best one. :heavy heavy sarcasm:

Seriously, Fallout 2 improved on it in every conceivable way.

What? Where! How?! Oh ... you're assuming again :/. Like I said it is the "perfect" Fallout. Waaaay to missinterpret my intention here, yeah I know it can sound like there is nothing that can ever be above Fallout 1, but honestly you gota have to start somewhere, don't you? And Fallout 1 IS simply the game that laid the foundation. And if you try to build something, it is always good to look at the basics. Like developer quotes, gameplay, the narrative and so on. And despite of the qualities Fallout 2 has as a role playing game, and as a sequel to Fallout 1, it doesn't come without it's flaws. It does expand a lot of things in a logical way, like the NCR, Tandi, Vault City, Marcus and Redding, and a couple more locations and NPCs. But as soon you leave this more serious teritory and get to the whacky stuff, like the Hubologists, the Shi, New Reno, you also leave 'Fallout' teritory, because New Reno for example is a "What if the Fallout world stuck to the 30s" and not "A 50s version of the future blown to hell". How can you not see what I am talking about?

Fallout is supposed to be about post-apocalyptic society and human nature, not some stupid green space monkeys.

I can never tell if you're serious tbh.

I try and take a jovial less than serious attitude toward the situation. I know my opinion is unpopular around here (specifically, that Fallout 3 is awesome and Fallout 4's problem was it was underwhelming versus complete shit) but I also have nothing but respect for the original games. I just don't like them as much as Fallout 3. I also like a lot of Bethesda's other offerings. Then again, I came here from the Bethesda forums when they changed them and ruined them for any serious lore discussion.

Which is a bit unfair, because despite of his bad taste (:P) he is not the typical Bethdrone and seems capable of discussing and actually express his thoughts. If all the Fallout 3 and 4 fans would be like that, we could definetly tolerate more of them here, simply because it gives a reason to talk about something. I mean ... something that I really disslike are circle-jerk groups. Even about things I love, like Fallout or Bondage.

A good debate is always welcome, although there's something to be said about repetition (at least from the perspective of having read and participated on this shit for nearly ten years). And it's also a bit weird, insisting on hanging out with "the opposing team". Kinda like some happy-go-lucky fanster going to the English side of the football audience to cheer for Germany. :P

The opening to MZ with the Lone Wanderer and the other captive great escape from the holding cells was one of the stupidest most impossible things I've ever seen that I couldn't take it seriously even within the context of aliens. They'd have been so fucked because even their initial plan would have never worked on aliens that intelligent and advanced (and who've done this for over centuries).
