Will Fallout 3 be remembered?

Discussion in 'Fallout 3 Discussion' started by Tagaziel, Nov 18, 2008.

Will Fallout 3 be remembered in 10 years' time?

  1. Absolutely. It will leave a lasting impression.

  2. Yes, it's a great game.

  3. Propably, yes. Look at the sales numbers.

  4. Maybe. I don't really know.

  5. Rather not, it's a mediocre game that's fun, but forgettable.

  6. No, the gamers will grow up and it will be forgotten.

  7. What, Fallout 3 exists?

  8. Yes but for the wrong reasons.

This thread has left a more lasting impression than the game itself.

Fallout 3 will be remembered for being better than the Black Isle ones.

FO3 does not even attempt to compete with the core series; neither style out-does the other
at the intended experience meant to be imparted upon their respective players. It's like comparing apples and
anchovies... Both are great in their own way ~but they not generally interchangeable in a dish; especially where the other might be [erroneously] hoped to improve upon an already great flavor by removing the other/ or mixing the two. Fallout and FO3's main strengths are mutually exclusive, and each deleterious to the other*.

*This is why you can shoot people 30 times to the head (and them shoot you back) in FO3... It's vestigial RPG mechanics in a franken-shooter.

However: What FO3 does best, gets regularly superseded by its competitors, and Bethesda themselves. FO3 won't be remembered for what it does well. Black-Ilse hasn't been superseded by anyone yet at what they did well; and what Fallout does well, is damn difficult, rarely attempted, and not likely to be forgotten by those who greatly appreciate it; (and who hardly ever see it anywhere in the industry anymore [it's a lost art; or rather an art lost on many]... and I don't mean Isometric view or turn based combat).

Fallout 3 is a masterpiece of RPGs compared to Fallout 4. It will be remembered as the best Fallout game that Bethesda made themselves (New Vegas was made by Obsidian obviously).

Bethesda didn't just destroy Fallout for fans of the originals. They destroyed Fallout in terms of their own version of the franchise - Fallout 4 does not even match Fallout 3 as an RPG or a Fallout game.

Both suck really hard. Arguing about which one is better is like 2 hobos fighting over a rat carcass that is actually jus a trash bag.

Both FO3 and FO4 won't be making any milestones in terms of its genre with gimmicks and exploration meant for open-world sandboxes being implemented instead of decent writing and role-playing capability.

FO3 brought attention back onto the series in modern times and that's all it'll be remembered for since New Vegas already added more to the series than the former.

Better to ignore Slayerite there. It's fully admitted to wanting to troll on this site at one point and is currently expressing hatred for everyone on NMA.

This discussion still rolling after almost 8 years after game's release. I think Fallout 3 is remembered already. Fallout 4 on the other hand, isn't. People already see the elephant in the room with F4. The only thing F4 has to offer is dumbed down trolls and scandals like with AL or lazy execution of season pass content.

I'm reminded of a scene from 3 Amigos, where the characters conflate infamous with very famous. Fallout 3 is infamous in both meanings I suppose, depends on who you talk to about it.

Well, if this thread from 2008 is still kicking... I guess it's a safe bet that Fo3 is certainly being remembered.

We remember it; like we'd remember someone vandalizing our living room just before a party... but that doesn't mean that the other guests would remember it years later.

(And certainly not, if the vandalism was to paint the walls puce; erasing all trace of the previous [wallpaper] design.) :puppy-dog: With FO3 they tried [their damnedest] to overwrite the previous games; and Todd made a point to belittle them in his public speeches; of course we're not going to forget it... but to the average consumer, it's like driving past somebody else's car wreck; usually forgotten in a week. FO3 is easily forgotten for not being stand-out under the influx of new games that surpass it. Fallout hasn't had many new games that surpass it at its own niche; FO3 has already had that done to it.

I doubt there is much I can say that hasn't already been said over the many years this thread has been alive, but I would like to throw in my opinion. I started with Fallout 3, so it has a special place in my heart. I recognize that it is a terrible shooter and RPG, but I will never forget it. I believe that the general populace will soon forget, though. Those who care enough to still remember it have probably found and prefer New Vegas. It will likely be remember most by the hardcore classic fans who resent it so(for perfectly understandable reasons).

Oh good, I thought you were a troll.
I sort of agree with you (except the part about F3 having a special place), and that the people who really care will prefer NV.
