Will Fallout 3 be remembered?

Will Fallout 3 be remembered in 10 years' time?

Votes got screwed in the latest forum upgrade.
The truth is that Korin himself did manipulate the poll on purpose though, since he's Bethesdean agent working in disguise! Feel free to PM him and ask, just don't tell anybody it was me who revealed the truth..

The poll results are indeed extremely weird. I don't think there is a reason for this game following to last for too long. It hasn't many things that make it different than the billions of seemingly wide but closed sandbox that get released every year.

The plot was revealed! :lmao:

Of course it will be! Or at least that's just my opinion, man.

I made one of if not my best-est friend playing fallout 3, we'd spend all night playing it and fucking around in the wasteland. I remember that that our minds we blown (pun intended) when we blue up megaton. Many pizzas were consumed playing that game and many good memories were made.

Just finally got around to playing Fallout 3 and I don't know whether it's because Steam forces me into the German language version (because apparently locking it in a low violence mode is not good enough if you don't also get to force people to endure the horrendous German voice acting) and I'm genuinely bothered by it.

I think history has shown that FO3 will be remembered because a bunch of normies who never heard of Fallout before think it's the best thing since sliced bread just because it's a free-roam RPG that for once isn't about wizards and bleeping orcs.

I managed to get a patch of questionable legality that would at least allow me to enjoy the English subtitles and prose but this only helped reassuring me that it's not just the localized voice acting that's lousy but the entire dialog writing is a hack job which doesn't do the franchise any justice. Everything about this game feels like someone took The Elder Scrolls and ran a search and replace trying to make it look like Fallout. Basically exactly what everyone in the Fallout community had feared it would be.

Before I say anything else, I have to emphasize how shitty the German version is. I don't know in how far the low violence version is different as I didn't take the Bloody Mess trait and headshots still make characters' heads go poof but the translation was obviously done by someone lacking even the most basic grasp of conversational English and whoever hired the voice actor must have made "dull and generic" their top requirement. I thought the translations in Fallout 1 and 2 were dodgy but at least the voices were somewhat appropriate and distinct.

The gameplay itself is also incredibly dull. I've been looking forward to nuking Megaton to finally silence that retarded cultist and get rid of all the characters that are apparently only defined as "genuinely nice and inoffensive" but for quest rewards' sake I instead decided to do the bullshit survival guide quest that sends me across the entire map doing random shit that mostly consists of arbitrary number and fetch quests. And every time I'm rewarded by the most autistic interpretation of what a "quirky" character should be like.

And I haven't even mentioned the dumbed-down character system, the proliferation of supposedly late-game enemies (centaurs? really?), the complete ignorance of the entire FEV backstory and so on. Granted, it looks and feels more like Fallout than anything Fallout Tactics managed to accomplish but Fallout Tactics was literally created by a team of developers that had no idea what the series was even about. Bethesda actually bought the franchise to create this game and they showed an utter lack of comprehension at every single aspect.

Let's hope New Vegas is better. I'm not even going to bother with this anymore. Camping traders to sell multiple sets of power armor and entire arsenals of firearms and landmines as a level 5 character is not my idea of fun.

It is undeniably a simple re-skin of TES; with the addition of toilet humor.

NV was example Obsidian on the leash. It's better writing, but that's about it. There are welcome minor mechanical improvements.

Sadly, Bethesda can (and did) learn from Obsidian's work (but not what lessons we'd hoped)... and FO4 shows the results.

New Vegas also has better quests, story structure and a lot of reactivity. It's not "just better writting" that really downplays how much Obsidian managed to do with the shit system they were given.

That's what it means to me though. :smug:
(Along with the mechanical improvements)

The actual game-activity as I recall it, was essentially the same; and in fact had new irritations... like conditions for withholding map travel even with no hostiles present.

No argument there, about Obsidian sculpting true art from base crap. But they had to work with the same basic gameplay they were given, and doubtlessly under Bethesda's leash of approval. It's still the same basic game.

Mechanically, NV is better than FO3 but not terribly different.
However, story, characters, quests, world...all of those are far better than FO3, even FO2 in my opinion (at least some parts). It has a shitton of flaws, but despite lacking gameplay, it is the world of Fallout, probably for the last time.

Are you kidding? Of course it'll be remembered. Outside this community, Fallout 3 is beloved and considered one of the best in the genre.

Okay the combat mechanics are not the best in Fallout New Vegas, in that regard it suffers from a lot of the problems that FO3 has.
But as people mentioned before the role playing gameplay, choices and consequences, and adherence to Fallout 1 and 2 lore is a lot better.

The world feels more like what you would expect from a Fallout game and not every settlement feels like a PA theme park attraction; there is logic and sense to them.
But some are a little better developed than others (face it, Camp Searchlight is basically "running zombie town"), a couple only having a few quests.

And some quests send you from one corner of the map to another just to talk to a character or deliver something.

It is not a full Fallout 1/2 experience and is a lot more of a shooter, but it has the Black Isle/Obsidian touch.

Well, you certainly changed your view about F3 to a bit positive. The now private review says 1.8/10
Welcome back again.
I still don't like it, but I have found things that genuinely don't suck about it. For instance, the intro sequence is actually pretty good.

@Crni Vuk ; Yes. I shall make you all too depressed to post here and then the forum will be all mine! ALL MINE!

I'm already depressed enough knowing we live in a World where both Bethesda will continue to make shit Fallout games and Adam Sandler will continue to make shit movies.

To Bethesda's credit, they could be a lot worse.
At least F3 manages to tell its story with minimal cut scenes (which NV did better anyway)

The only thing worse would be if Bethesda hired Adam Sandler to be the PC's family member in the next iteration of the classic Bethesda family-issues story arc.

Is this a joke or not ? Ofcourse, It will be remembered.

I'm now busy with my 3th play.
I can't get the following out of my head :

Time to spend with you're dad. The game makes it emotional. .... I love you too dad.
Then he's away ... You get worried.
And then = SUICIDE before you're own eyes !!! If that doesn't trigger any emotion, what will ????
Yes, I CRY on that moment. And so what ?

That's one of those things, I love so much on this game.
Like a real life that can happen, full of emotions.

Good Story, good RPG system, good action, emotionally, open world in first person view!!!!

1 BAD point or not ? I must investigate further ....
THE GOTY. These abnormal becomming enemies. A GHOUL with 1100 HP ?
That's sick and un realistic, into my eyes at leatst. Due this ABNORMAL difficulty, I've now re-started my game. I was STUCK due these enemies.

Felt like a HUGE PUSH OVER the limit. I still have the original first game. Still love it.

Good Story,
This game, at least until fallout 4, was the most poorly written disgrace in the mainline series. The story is in no way shape or form well written even ignoring the lore contraditions.
good RPG system
It's certainly good enough but it's poorly utilized and new vegas made huuuuuuge improvements.
good action,
In a gambryo game? Unlikely.
And then = SUICIDE before you're own eyes !!! If that doesn't trigger any emotion, what will ????
You mean the part where the Enclave, who were conpletely destroyed in the last game, shows up to fix the Purifier and your dad kills himself for no reason other than he doesn't want the Enclave to have credit? Two guys in power armour are killed by the radiation, which a purifier should not emit, but col autumn returns later despite wearing only a trench coat. This is by far one of the most poorly written and mishandled scenes in the entire franchise. Yes that includes the final confontation with frank horrigan.

Look man you enjoy it? Awesome. I wish I could but the game just makes me angry with how much of the fallout universe it destroys or devalues. You like the game and that's cool but don't try and tell me it's well written because that's when you cross the realm of opinion and taste to just being wrong.
