Will Fallout 3 be remembered in 10 years' time?

It is the game that introduced porn mod obsessed teens to the Fallout series, of course it's gonna be remembered.

Funny that the first option has the most votes, but nearly 10 years later and it's easily one of the most criticized games in the series for being an harbinger of how much the series would be fucked. New Vegas gave the series a glimmer of hope that the series would bounce back and improve, but then comes 4 and pretty much fucks this series even harder than 3.

It's like watching a drug addled buddy get better then relapse and forget even more of what he is.

You mean the part where the Enclave, who were conpletely destroyed in the last game, shows up to fix the Purifier and your dad kills himself for no reason other than he doesn't want the Enclave to have credit?

You say that like it's retarded or something.

Two guys in power armour are killed by the radiation, which a purifier should not emit, but col autumn returns later despite wearing only a trench coat. This is by far one of the most poorly written and mishandled scenes in the entire franchise. Yes that includes the final confontation with frank Horrigan.

IIRC he injects himself with something, it's still a bad scene though. Especially since he apparently has time to inject himself (he just happened to have this really powerful anti-radiation serum) yet the two power armour troopers (who should be way better protected than a man in a trenchcoat) die almost instantly.

This fucking thread still active, and we're reaching 10th anniversary of Fallout 3. I guess it is well remembed. So, question answered.

So after ten years (and I kinda want to do a YT video on this asking if it holds up)

I can safely say that Fallout 3 is... Okay.

As a game, I like it a lot. But since New Vegas came out, it's more of a relic of a game from a previous time.

As a game for 2008, I think its open endedness is something fairly different from the landscape 10 years ago.

The RPG system is actually... Decent.
It certainly feels like at least some of the team cared about what they were making.

However, it will always be that game that introduced me to better games.

And with Fallout 4 being a massive let down, even by Bethesda standards, I think it'll be a nostalgic memory rather than a masterpiece.

I love how this thread just keeps on chugging along. Somewhat makes the whole thread pointless. This is where Tagaziel or someone else comes in and vats the thread for no reason, another thread pops up in response, and we all circlejerk for another year or two until the process repeats.

*Checks who created thread.

It's Tagaziel.

Haha.

It will be remembered as UnFallout 3. Stupid story, pointless characters, no motivation other than go and kill stuff for no reason, and even that's no fun when the combat physics are utterly wooden. The actioncam is a pathetic afterthought to try and deal with how moronic the combatants feel all the time.
What is even the purpose of VATS? You can play with it, you can play without it, but let's just stick it in there so we have an excuse to have the SPECIAL attributes, which could have been totally irrelevant for all I care. It's like someone had no idea where they were going while designing the "gameplay", but Marketing said they had to sell this shit to FPS and RPG fans alike.

Every single character looks, moves, acts, and talks like a lifeless impotent robot. What immersion. Even the drugs are a joke in this shit (honestly, I can't call this a "game"). I don't even wanna get into the dialogue.

The setting.
- In the real Fallouts (note I'm not saying "original"), there was the wasteland, radiation, misery, and that was contrasted in towns and cities by futuristic, hi-tech machinery and equipment already produced before the apocalypse that the survivors just adapted to and learned how to use. These survivors are a new breed of people: half human, half something else. Their appearance, behavior and clothing may resemble but definitely don't outright copy whatever was in human history before (except for New Reno gangsters). There is an odd familiarity to them, but they are not quite like anything you've encountered.
- In the UnFallouts (3 and 4 they call them), every fucking thing came from the 50's. The radio music, the clothing, the hairstyles, even the fucking computers are Commodore-64's (even more ancient than those). Like humanity just woke up one day in 1956 and called it a century: "Let's halt progress here, who needs anything new at this point?" This suggests nothing new was ever discovered between 1960 and 2077. Or do you mean to tell me that everything after 1960 was obliterated in the apocalypse and all that was preserved stashed in vaults was from before that for some reason? If you do, don't.

Most of all, fuck the "dad" character. What a retarded fucking idiot. Making you risk your life running all over the goddamn place, only to bullshit you into killing yourself at the end for the greater good. Really? And you want me to believe that was his whole plan all along? What would the old fart have done had you got mauled to death by a deathclaw along the way?

And what a contrived ending. You get to the end objective and you are directly given a choice of how you want the game to end. Like nothing you ever did before matters in the least, except get from point A to point B.

"Fallout 3" (you have no idea how it pains me to write that digit after the word) is a mediocre "game" that deserves to be scraped off the ANALS of gaming history. While the people who ever liked it have probably outgrown it by 5 intelligence, sadly it will forever be remembered by real Fallout fans. As the thing that should not have been. Fucking shit. Fuck Bethesda.

The reason why I even write this is because I hope. That the generation that was tricked into believing they like this shit will wake up and realize. When new corporations purchase and fuck up their favorite franchises now. That we were fair in our criticisms. And they will join our ranks.

Tagaziel is now fiercely defending fallout 4 in a Falloutwiki facebook community.

No, it was just a discussion about how Fallout 4 is awesome because F2 and F1 had 'issues' too and anyone who can't see this is just 'nostalgic' and stuck in the past, which I find ridiculous.

Dementia... Age catches up to us all.

I am kind of disappointed to hear Tagz is doing that now these days.

Guess he decided to go with the stream where as I decided that no one is going to tell me what Fallout is and how the new games improved on the originals, gameplay, lore, etc.

I think you are a little to optimistic there.
If anything I have learned there are more and more each generation that will swallow garbage when it is hyped enough.

Man, before playing Fallout 1 & 2 I sang F3's praises. I still consider it a great game buuuuuut... yeah, it's not perfect. I still can't figure out how they went from F3 to F4 because the drop in quality is astounding. I mean, at least Fallout 3 nailed the themes.
