Breaking Down The Fallout 4 Character Creation System

Surprise, some people can discuss a game without just drooling on the floor and singing it praises even when it's balantly an inferior product.

For some reason there are a lot of people who for some reason see game quality as a binary- a game is either good (in which case you should shut up about it's flaws) or bad (in which case you shouldn't point out the good parts.) There are people in the world who will look at a 7/10 game review and ask "why did you hate it so much."

So discussing a game that is deemed "good" by these folks is pretty much an issue of joining together to praise it, and acknowledging any sort of criticism is tantamount to admitting it is not, as initially believed, a good game.

I honestly wonder how these people feel about books, or movies, or albums, or sandwiches.

Actually I encounter this problem sometimes with people, when they ask me, how did it taste? And I say, oh it was good! And the next things that comes is, oh, that bad? Or you don't like it? And I am like, whhhhaaat I said it's good and for them good = bad ... it's like this excessive use of "awesome" I guess.

Might want to ask Wal, he thinks his opinion is fact. People need to realize that their opinion is not fact, but they never will.

No, you're wrong!

Is your avatar from On The Beach? That movie sucks! (I'm kidding I love that movie and own it on DVD.)

I never claim my opinions are fact, is just that I usually don't base them on bullshit and have little tolerance for those who do.

Yeah, if you ever thought that Walpknut is bad, you've never seen some of the posters around here circa the pre-Fallout 3 days.

Fuck, some of them even became moderators.

Roshambo for sure would've banned all of us without a second thought.

This sucks, so far haven't found any Energy Weapons for the skill I tagged  Least in F3/NV I could get my hands on basic stuff early on

Energy weapons aren't basic, though. Unless you think the Grandfather sword in Diablo was basic, too. Lol.

"Tagging Energy Weapons in Fallout 1 and being at a disadvantage since you can't find one for forever" is pretty much the exact same problem as "Tagging Big Guns in Fallout 3 and being at a disadvantage since you can't find one forever" anyway.

That's one of the reasons New Vegas actually improved on the skill system.

Merging skills and presenting a more even weapon distribution shows that Obsidian grasped the preexisting issues with the systems and were capable of working within the systems to fix the problem.

And we would have thanked him for it and asked for more! Yep! That's the kind creature Rosh was!

Not everything is just opinion. For example that Beths version of Fallout can never be a Sequel to Fallout 1 and 2. I know some people don't like to hear that, but that is a fact.

Didn't you get a fatman or a minigun close to the start of Fallout 3? You're also given mininukes and ammo like it's nothing pretty much.

I think most of this is an easy mod fix. Give it a good month or 2 after release and you'll see something like CCO for New Vegas. I'd love to see walpknut's system idea implemented somehow through modding.

Sigh, it reminds me of Skyrim allright. I would specialize in swordfighting, which also meant I had to give several shits about axes - which I didn't. These perk-trees just reeked of idea-droughts, with a couple of useful perks, and just pointless stupid filler for the rest.

As for the visuals, I wish they'd just stop pretending, rate it G, and get it over with allready. So, animated pip-boy icons with sound - I bet they're allready dreaming about a 3D modelled, colored and shiny animated icons with sound, oh wait, I forget i'm expected to react like a toddler AAAHAHAHA IT MOVES!!! THE ICON MOVES AND MAKES SOUNDES :O :O

To fix the tragic destruction of the SPECIAL system they would need to redo the whole game, rewrite and reprogram all quests and basically come up with a new interface entirely. This is by no means an easy mod fix, it would probably require a lot of work. Maybe more than a year.

It makes you wonder how much time was spend to all of this what I consider useless visual fluff. I mean, I won't lie here, it looks absolutely awesome. No question about that. But how much of it has actually any effect on the gameplay of the game? Or how Todd boasted their attention to detail on some press conference by showing countless of different concept art for controll panels ... oh boy. Can someone still remember how many concept art Fallout 1 had? Or how big the team was? I love concept art, but sometimes I feel like there is waaaaay to much focus on pretty but actually useless visuals today while story, writing etc. have to take a back seat. Why bother? She is dump, but she sure looks pretty!
