Fallout 4 DLC revealed

I think it is not wrong to like or love a certain intellectual creation to the point we want to defend it, but we should always remain critical. Acknowledge that even our most favorite things have flaws.

Fallout is the granddaddy that set the tone but it has plenty of flaws that I think should be fixed up.
I am not very good when it comes to statistics and numbers but I feel it would be nice if there had been more quest solutions, not to mention return of the missing content as some of it played an important role in the Super Mutant invasion questline.

Well to be fair, despite of all the complaining and whining we display here. We have to be realistic. The number of "Beth drones" and "Beth fanatics" is really very low, if you compare it to all the people that play and enjoy most Beth games. We are talking about millions of people here.
The truth, I guess, is that most players simply don't give a flying fuck about Beth, Fallout or what we think Fallout should be. If Beth sells their games now as RPG, shooter, or some kind of hybrid. If it is a deep game or not, if the story has lots of choices and so on. You get the picture.
But you can't really blame them anyway, the normal gamer I mean. Some of us have spend years with Fallout, and we simply love it. Everyone, what ever if he admits it or not, is a fan of something.

I believe, for most people, Fallout 3 and 4 now, are just like the next thing that is super awesome fun and a great time waster till the next CoD or Borderlands clone comes out. I mean it got 9 out of 10! It got 5 goty awards no one ever really cared about in the first place. So it must a great game. Right?

As harsh as this sounds, and I really don't mean that to offend anyone, but those gamers are like locusts. But their food, is entertainment. And they move from one form of entertainment to the next. CoD Yesterday, Mass Effect tomorrow, and if that isn't entertaining, they move to, what ever else is popular. That isn't even so much the proble though. Well not for me. I mean, as long we are talking about CoD. Some games always had the mass market as target. And that's ok! I am not complaining about the fact that CoD is CoD and that it can sell millions of copies. Or Battlefield for that matter.
But the real problem is in my opinion, when a company like Bethesda is buying something like Fallout, and turning it in to a franken-shooter. Even though, that was never the original idea behind the game.
And THEN you have people coming in here explaining how we are full of shit, because are just oldschool, and Beth is making "real" RPGs or what ever ...

There's a solution to this, though. With the right marketing, any game can become popular. An Obsidian Fallout just has to get more acclaim than a Bethesda one. To the masses it's more about showing than telling. New Vegas was unintentionally sabotaged by a tight deadline and by being given no support in maintaining an unstable game engine.

Hopefully, if Obsidian doesn't get that kind of treatment again with their next work on Fallout, they'll be able to have a chance at showing the industry why they're better at it. It's really the only way - everyone here doesn't really care how famous and money-making Fallout is, but Bethesda does, and the only way that's going to prove to them that they should let Obsidian handle it is for them to see a live demonstration of the reason why.

The problem with this solution is that if like New Vegas, it has any more flaws than the previous game (Fallout 4 in this case) did, Bethesda wins that console generation and it's several years back at the drawing board at Obsidian before they get to stab at it again, and frankly that could mean a long wait and the teams at Obsidian could get tired of it by then and just not bother working with Bethesda anymore.

It's a matter of a duel to prove profits between BGS and Obsy to prove to Softworks which Fallout is more worth it to invest in, and by not being an integrated studio and therefore costing more, Obsidian is sure at a disadvantage on this one.

Obsidian doesn't need BGS scraps and an Obsidian Fallout fantasy is just us fans holding on to a franchise that is in a ditch dead and rotting. I would much rather see more from Obsidian and Paradox since Paradox now owns Vampire the Masquerade.

See, this group of gamers you just described? The majority, the feeds on what's marketed to them one after the next? Bethesda Game Studios is considered a great developer because they are exactly what happens when that exact group of gamers become developers.

Bethesda Game Studios are regarded as being connected to the players that enjoy their game, unlike many developers out there who remain disconnected from their community. This is because, essentially, Bethesda is like what happens with CoD, Mass Effect, Borderlands and other similar games' fans takes up game development.

That's why people say they're such a good company. They are gamers, too. Just not the kind of gamers NMA is full of. They're the kind of gamers who would probably call cRPG fans "nerds". Even I can imagine Pete Hines calling someone a nerd.

The problem isn't people who buy these games and are disappointed by them, it's the ones who ceaselessly lap this shit up, worship the companies that produce them, and ruthlessly attack anyone who dares question them.

You know, it's not like NMA don't have their fair share of these people too. We just see less of them here because our admins are better and quicker at their jobs.

We have admins? >_>
Oh right! You mean that Fallout 3 lover that has the name Korin :D
And people say we hate everything and everyone who loves Bethesdas Fallout game. Ou! No, we just hate the ones that are unreasonable.

Well, I tried making a post about that once, but then everyone thought I was just being weird about it. Anyways, here's a Reddit post I made. See the responses for your amusement. I got downvoted like hell for a normal question, and it speaks a lot about the Bethesda fanbase.

Anyway, welcome to the cynical part of the Internet. Things around here are a bit sour, but better to be critical than to blindly lick boot all day long.

Lol, thank you for the welcome. I've been holding in this anger about Fallout 4 for a while. I ranted about it on the Fallout Reddit, I even asked for help on how to enjoy this game on the Fallout 4 reddit. At this point I've just given up and resigned myself to just imagining it isn't a Fallout game. Though that's really hard to do when every 5 minutes I see a Vertibird flying overhead or get attacked by a deathclaw. It's not an awful game, but as a Fallout game, my God, it's literally the worst game on the planet.

I think allot of NMA members are in the same boat, I am at least. Don't say you're part of the problem Lanfear is right, it's the weirdos who get into the tribal mentality and begin mindlessly defending a product that isn't theirs, they're 'the problem'!

I think it's more the fact that I contributed to the problem by preordering the game and the season pass, basically telling Bethesda, "I trust you to make a fantastic product even before it comes out!" and then they took the money and ran. I feel scammed, and the worst part is I couldn't even refund my copies because I got them both on a big sale back in September so by then it was too late for a Paypal refund. In fact, I actually got the base game for my girlfriend as well, so really I wasted 105 dollars because she hates the game too. More than I do actually, she absolutely refuses to see any good in the game lol. She's a diehard New Vegas fan.

Off subject, but cool to hear there are also die hard female Fallout New Vegas fans.

Haha, oh yes, she loves New Vegas. She thinks Fallout 3 is just okay, I bought her both for Christmas a couple of years ago and she ended up playing New Vegas first. She's like me, she still hasn't stopped playing it and she's probably beaten it over 30 times with tons of different builds. Neither of us even mod the game outside of some cut content mods or the New Vegas Bounties mods, we can play just the base game + dlcs and enjoy the heck out of it. I did get her the original 2 games as well but I don't think she ever got around to playing them.

Ironically, her favorite faction is the Legion. 2nd favorite is Independent. My favorites are NCR and Mr. House.

Haha, if it makes any sort of difference, I upvoted your thread. It's sitting at a 29% upvote rating now, geez.

You should just avoid cross-side trolling guys. It's not really allowed here. Let others think what ever they want. NMA doesn't care, and continues with polishing the glittering gem of hatred.

This is my first time posting on here. I figured I just had to say something about this. I've been a Bethesda fan for a really long time. I started with the "worst" of both the Elder Scrolls and Fallout, starting with Fallout 3 and Skyrim. I then worked my way down to Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas, and then Oblivion and Morrowind.

Like pretty much everyone else here I can imagine, I grew to love Fallout New Vegas more than Fallout 3, and Morrowind over Skyrim. Unlike a lot of you guys, I actually don't mind Fallout 3 and Skyrim being dumbed down compared to earlier/later entries in the franchises. I feel they were both fairly solid. At the very least, they had RPG elements in them.

Fallout 4 is where I hit a brick wall. In the week leading up to Fallout 4, I not only preordered it but bought the Season Pass as well. I thought "there's no way Bethesda can screw this up!" In order to hype myself even more, I played through the entirety of New Vegas during that week leading up to the 10th, unlocking all the achievements for the game so I wouldn't have the urge to go back and play it some more instead of Fallout 4. Now what am I doing right now, 3-4 months later? I'm still playing New Vegas, and Fallout 4 is gathering dust on my Steam account. 65 dollars wasted. (40 for FO4 and 25 for the season pass)

I just couldn't believe how much was missing, especially after playing through New Vegas fully at least twice before the launch. Gone were meaningful choices in missions! Gone were SPECIAL dialogue that actually affected the outcome of a mission! (such as in New Vegas how with a high enough speech check you literally don't have to kill a single person on any of the missions, there is ALWAYS a peaceful solution, even during the final bosses, Lanius or Oliver) I think my most hated feature missing from the previous games was that you can't be evil. At all. There's no Caesar's Legion to join, there's no nuking Megaton, there's no joining Slavers to take over the wasteland by selling everyone for profit, there's no helping cannibals return to their roots, etc etc. The most you get is drug-running, helping druggies, and maybe shooting up a settlement or 2 with the BOS.

Hell, the only part of Fallout 4 I can say I truly enjoyed were the companions. (please don't shoot me) I know plenty of people seem to think they lack characterization, and I'll say they don't hold much of a candle to New Vegas's companions, they still hold a place in my heart. I love me some Nick Valentine. I will say the Romance system is complete shit though and left 0 impact on me. There were also some quests that I really did like, such as The Silver Shroud and getting that beer robot. (Buddy I think?)

I guess the point I'm trying to make here is: I'm sorry. I'm sorry for being part of the problem. I'm sorry for being one of those idiots that not only preordered this game but preordered it with the season pass as well because I thought Bethesda was the Second Coming of Christ Himself. (Don't worry though, I didn't get the Pipboy edition) I know better now. I don't think I'll ever buy a game from Bethesda again. I guess now all I can do is wait for the DLC to come out and try it. Sometimes, if I imagine Fallout 4 isn't a Fallout game, I can have a good time with it. I like being able to go Charisma 10 and make literally everyone my pack mule/slave/pet with the click of a button. It just really speaks volumes to me that, instead of sinking my teeth into a brand new Fallout game, 4 months after this new game's release I'm still playing New Vegas, a game I've beaten over 10 times now and I'm still enjoying, over the shiny new game that I should be enjoying but can't because it's a piece of shit.
Wow this is my thoughts exactly, although I started with Oblivion not Skyrim. I even started here a few days ago too.
I did buy the Pipboy edition though, and the game guide, and the art book. So much money. Wasted on a shit game that I bought into the hype. I actually don't regret the art book purchase however, really nice book and shows some of that fancy concept art.
Good thing I didn't buy that season pass, I thought it was pretty shitty they put one out so I never bought it.
I did start having doubts about the game when all that leaked footage started appearing and I watched it all here. Made me really start to doubt the game but I just ignored it and told my self it would be good. I was wrong, really wrong. After this game I will not be purchasing any more BGS games anymore so I will just stay with the older ones I have and enjoy.

They even could have included the season pass on the book or the pipboy edition, but noooo, they will lose money or something, trusting and caring about their fans' opinion is for indie studios.

No they didn't. The game guide came with some SPECIAL poster thing and I think a world map. The art book is just an art book. The pipboy edition comes with the plastic pipboy with the foam cut outs for your phone, the steel case for the game, the game of course, and a special container. Naturally they will lose money on the season pass, that's why they spit in the fans face and raise the price of it because they love the fans
