So, in this thread:
http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/15...more-just-a-g-with-a-story-110/#entry24520968
Someone criticizes Fallout 4 for not being an RPG.
Here are some responses:
"
It is a game, you can role play this said game. It has roles you can play. Hence it is an RPG? Stands to reason, no?"
So Battlefield Vietnam is an RPG then.
"
Call it what you will but Bethesda will make 1.5+ billion dollars from this game (I heard they are at 800 million already). Their job is to sell the most copies which means things will be more streamlined."
Who cares if it isn't a good RPG, cashmoney is the only thing that matters.
And here is a moderator responding to him:
"
if you disagree with the OP, let it be and let the thread drop into oblivion. Do not post to call anyone a troll.
OP: Nice of you to join just to let us know you don't like the game. This being a fan forum of those who do enjoy the game, it's a bit of flamebait here and usually results in members flaming and getting warnings. As long as this thread stays civil, it stays open. But we will not allow it to continue if it becomes uncivil. There are many places that accept reviews with open arms. You might want to let them know over at Metacritic. It's the place for reviews. This forum is for fans of the games to discuss both the good and bad about the game.
We will be watching this thread closely and if we have to remove or edit too many posts or give warnings, it will be closed."
This kinda shit happened just before the release which is what made me leave the forum; The moderators don't want negative criticism. It's a place for fans, only positive messages should be held there and if you hold negative ones, well, we can't ban you outright but we'll damn well look for any reason to shut this thread down (the thread got locked after 3 pages).
"
Why have food, drink, sleep and separate armor bits? So you can roleplay . "
This doesn't even make any fucking sense to me.
"
k bye"
This, THIS, was not removed by the strict moderators. This is all that the user posted. "k bye". That's not only flamebaity in that kind of condescending dismissive way but it is also just flat out spam. The moderators think that is a big no no. Except when it is said to someone who's posting negative criticism it seems like.
And here's another moderator:
"
That's not to say Bethesda totally perfected this aspect, I think there's still room for improvement. But this far I find I'm cooking alot more now, and making use of food. I just think there's an equally compelling argument to make that you can encourage roleplaying just as much by rewarding players for specific activities as you can by making having a plethora of meters to track. Different strokes for different folks though - that's what happens when people have opinions about subjective topics. "
I'm getting real tired of this bullshit of an excuse of an argument. RPG's CAN be objectively judged. Sorry, but just cause you 'feel' different doesn't make up for the fact that Fallout 4's RPG elements are neutered. And that you cook a lot more is god damn meaningless. Unless you can actively RP as a chef. Can you? No? You just craft some food here and there? Then fuck off with the cooking. It's just as much "RP'ing" as walking down a road and saying you're RPing as a tourist.
"
Whatev"
See: "k bye".
"
Fallout 4 has introduced MORE RPG elements than any of the previous games had :/"
Right, then what rock are they hiding under?
"
Dude. Mods. Mods. Mods."
Mods are irrelevant to a discussion of a game's merits as an RPG.
"
But what if it was. And is"
I didn't cut this sentence. This is literally all the person wrote. Allow me to summarize his already short post with one word: "Nuh-uh!"
I think ya'll get the point.
[edit]
And here's another one:
"
If Obsidian does a Fallout, I hope they do better QA. Never completed NV because of the constant crashing to desktop. Unmodded NV and I keep crashing. I hate NV!"
Yes,
Obsidian is responsible for the poor QA. >_>
[edit]
My point with all of this is to shed some light on the way some Bethfans respond to criticism of their new favorite game for those that don't venture into the Bethesda Forums. Anyone who don't get why people don't call Fallout 4 and Bethesda out on their shit this might give you some perspective on it. Proper criticism is treated this way by like half the posters in that thread.
[edit]
Wait, is this considered cross-site trolling?

Respect others as long as they respect you. If they disrespect you, simply ignore them. That means no flaming. That also means no death threats to any developers or media outlets, no matter how much you hate them. Don't be an idiot. It also means no trolling and no cross-site trolling.
