Fallout: New Vegas quest troubleshooting (spoilers)

I wonder if leaving him waiting in freeside and then going to Jacobstown would work, Possible Exploit? I mean you can still use his Perk and everything. Also you don't need to kill Rey (Gibson's dog) she puts him down because he is very old already. Not completing Rex' quest eans he will eventually die too.

I tested that theory with fast travel. when it comes time to perform the surgery, Rex has to be physically with you or the doctor won't do it. He says "where's your dog? I can't perform surgery on a dog that's not here." or something like that. I think I mentioned that in an earlier post.

EDIT:Or I might have forgotten to. I'll check after I edit this post. :p

EDIT^2: I had said "I'd need him to come with me to Jacobstown to get the surgery" but didn't elaborate beyond that but that's pretty much what I meant. I guess I should have clarified. sorry. :p

Just curious about how far you are along the main quest without spoiling anything for you. Have you entered the New Vegas strip yet? If yes, have you done any of the casino stuff?

I haven't entered the strip yet. I played some slots at Atomic Wrangler. I'm going to go into the Strip soon though. Was gonna wrap up some side quests in the area and then head on in.

Huh... I'm rather curious how you unlocked the How Little We Know quest if you hadn't visited the strip already...

But, there ARE ways you can get Rex to Jacobstown while STRICTLY avoiding Fast Travel and him killing anything (usually mantises). But however you go about it you'd likely be busting your ass exploiting the game in other ways, so take your pick... For example, ABUSING as much Turbo as you can get your grubby hands on (praying that you're faster at traveling than he is at running down his prey) and running into the nearest lodge once you get there (you both will instantly spawn beside one another upon entering the new map). You can also Stealth Boy sneak the entire way to the Lodge, and if no mantis EVER notices you, Rex should be okay with that....... possibly.

Naturally, the easiest way is to simply Fast Travel, but that's a mechanic I have NEVER employed in New Vegas, because of my fond distaste over it, excluding the few times I'm forced to for fixing some kind of bugs...

Rex now has a new brain and I was able to find a path through the mountains with no mantises. Though on the way back I got pretty close to a mantis and thought for sure Rex was going to attack. But I had 95 Stealth and I was crouched so maybe the mantis didn't see me and initiate combat. Either way, Rex didn't attack on his own.

He's such a good boy! Yes, he is! Oh yes, he is!

:p

Also, went to Vegas but didn't stay long. Just met with Mr. House and left. For shits and giggles...[spoiler:02c396f35b]I hacked my way into his secret chamber and killed him just to see what it was like.[/spoiler:02c396f35b] Was kinda cool. :p
But I immediately reverted to an older save. :p

EDIT: Hmmmm...something appears bugged? Again, for shits and giggles, I decided to...[spoiler:02c396f35b]use the Black Widow perk to seduce Benny and it gave me the option to kill him in his sleep. So I did. And afterwards my stats said I still have killed 0 people and 0 creatures.[/spoiler:02c396f35b] Technical loophole or bug?
I'm assuming bug.

Well, I reverted to an earlier save. Even though the game says I killed nobody, my character knows she did. So I currently don't have the chip. :p

Next time you are in the strip, make sure to say hi to Yes Man. You need him for the Independent ending which you pretty much have to do if you want to stay a pacifist. He should be somewhere in Benny's bedroom...

Also yeah, the kill counter in New Vegas does need some more oversight lol...

Last time I did a no-kill run I slept with him and then let him go. I went the NCR route in that game. Not sure what I did the 1st time, it was a while ago but I went with Yes Man. In both cases I ended up going to Caesar's camp to get the chip. I let Benny free and then ran from the camp. He probably got killed by guards but just leaving him to die with no chance of survival didn't feel right.

I think you have to kill if you go with Mister House or the Legion.

Going with Legion involves killing, yes, same with House - he'll ask you to annihilate BoS, with no other choice, even if you try to convince him.

Talked to Yes Man. LOL @ his dialogue.

Also, talking to him about the Omertas gave me the How Little We Know quest. Which reminded me to respond to this:

Mmmm.... that answer would have to be a big, resounding: Not exactly.

You'd need some considerable foreknowledge of the quest if you were to take the "non violent" approach (which results in many people dying), and if you the "ultra pacifist" approach, you'd PROBABLY need to find a way to Reverse Pickpocket an NPC to get them to do some necessary killing FOR you, otherwise you'll be stuck in a situation where you need to get your hands dirty.

Take your pick, but option A, with how you're intending to play the game, would be LEGENDARILY hypocritical.

Meant to ask this earlier, but the way I play always ends up in me having foreknowledge of the quest because when I start a quest, I talk to people and do various things and then if something ends up with me having to kill someone I revert to an older save and then try again. So without a guide this ends up in me eventually trying most alternative ways of doing the quest until I find the most peaceful way of finishing that doesn't require me to directly kill anybody. I don't think that's hypocritical. That's just videogames, right?

Anyway, it's going to be a while before I tackle this quest (need to finish up stuff in the Primm/Mojave Outpost/NCRCF area) so I'll worry about it when I get back to New Vegas. :p

I've been through the part where you confront Benny a bunch of different ways and there's no way to get the Platinum Chip now without killing him is there? I'll have to let him escape and survive the ambush and then find him again later. Not that I mind having to find him later as I have plenty of other quest to complete, but I would like there to be some way I don't have to deal with the ambush at least. Really annoying. >_<

I think I'm gonna let Benny be for a while and do some other stuff while I think about it. Besides, I don't really want to reset my faction with the Legion yet. And Vulpes doesn't seem to come up to me unless I've confronted Benny.

EDIT: Okay, I found a reasonable option. Instead of doing a Speech check to get Benny to go up to the Presidential Suite with me, I did the Barter check which gives me 500 caps and then I go up to the Suite alone and Benny talks to me through the intercom and after a couple Speech checks he agrees not to kill me and he flees. So I'll do it that way. What a relief. :p

Still gonna do it later. Again, mostly because I don't want to reset my faction with the Legion yet.

I think there is another option to get the Platinum Chip without having to kill him. Did you talk with the guy at the front desk? The one near the guy that asks for your weapons when you enter the casino?

I talked to Swank and convinced him that Benny is up to no good. So he distracts Benny while I go up to his room to find more evidence. Yes Man is the new evidence. So I go down to tell him and then he asks me what I'm gonna do about it. I can say "confront him", "kill him", or "I have to think about it". That's all Swank does. Though he also lets me carry weapons inside the casino in order to keep Benny bodyguards in check or something.

Then when confronting Benny I can either kill him to get the chip or try to talk to him about it. Talking to him either sics his guards on me and I have to escape, or I can convince him to let me live. Either way, I don't get the chip right away unless I kill him. And I think that's what's intended for the pacifist playthrough. *shrug*

NO, he still runs away, but leaves you a note where he promises to have another "date" when he is done doing what he is doing.
