It is iffy.
On the one hand, our government worked hard to compromise to pass COVID19 relief legislation. That is saying a lot in a country where we rarely agree on much.
On the other hand, we did not do very well on having enough test kits. We also were slow on providing more efficient methods of testing, like drive throughs for example.
All in all, in a country where people are not that interested in big government, we do as well as we could. While we have social distancing and stay home orders, there are enough exceptions for people to do what needs to be done compared to more authoritarian governments with their much harder core lockdown.
Most people in my area are getting used to the fact that we are going to have to accept COVID19 much like Measles, TB, Polio, etc, until we mostly wiped them out with vaccines. Asymptomatic carriers and the fact that the virus can stay on surfaces for a long time, pretty much means people should accept the fact that they might get the virus and just do their best to get tested.
