So what lore has Bethesda done gone fucked up?

Do you guys seriously want Bethesda fucking up the pre war lore even more? They added a fucking moon battle... Do you want more of that? Also saying that Bethesda is good at modern themes is a kneeslapper, they have an even more childish understandment of political ideology than even the Bioshock franchise. Emil is just a shitty writer, plain and simple.

I think we should be well past caring at this point, it's not like they even barely begin to understand what they should be doing with it.

Let's be honest, if Bethesda turns Fallout into basically Call of Duty, I don't think anyone here will bother to even complain about it. Once you've seen two train crashes and know a third one is going to, there's a sense of "seen one, seen 'em all".

So, it's done. How many of you are still pining for a Fallout made by Obsidian? I think the chances are already down to zero. Even if the lore was salvageable, Bethesda wouldn't let anyone else at it anymore.

I don't give a damn what they do storywise, honestly. None of their work registers as really being Fallout for me. It's all just shitty spin-offs.

As long NMA exists we will complain. As long we complain, NMA exists.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with that, NMA would be pretty boring without the complaining anyways.

That's the attitude of someone who likes to get fucked over. No thanks. Enjoy thinking that way but don't expect others to just suck it down.

How the hell am I "sucking it down" and "getting fucked over"? If it's just complaining around here that counts as not sucking it down, I'm doing it too unless you haven't noticed. If not getting fucked over means actually doing something about Bethesda, then I don't see how you are doing any better.

Good morning. In less than an hour, Gems of Hatred from here will join others from other niche forums and blogs. And you will be launching the largest ranting and moaning in the history of all fandoms.

“Fandom.” That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it’s fate that today is not October 23 2077, and yet the bombs of hatred will be falling, fighting for our fandom… Not from Genre-mixing, Poor UI, or Hype-trains… but from shitty games licencing application.

We are fighting for our right to enjoy gaming. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fallout titles will no longer be known as a shitty FPS crap-fest, but as an RPG, and the fans declared in one voice: We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to play on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate Role Playing Fallout Games!

Okay, simmer down. The revolution hasn't began yet, let's just dream on as Bethesda rapes Fallout and spews shooters out of the franchise.

Well, at least we will have some time to rest for now, as the next game they will rape for now is The Elder Scrolls. And rumor says it might not happen before 2018 maybe even 2019.

Actually... what has Bethesda Game Studios done that ANY of the studios alongside them under Bethsoft haven't already done better? Forget succeeding other developers, can they even succeed the subsidiaries working within the same company? *sigh*
Could be the combination of ideas that is unique. Sandbox world. First person gameplay. Interaction with the vast majority of NPC's. Being able to interact with tons of items and shit in the world. Being able to "create your own adventure". The way leveling works, the way the UI is like, the way you can loot everything from enemies and wear it. The way you can read books in TES. Small things that combined add up into an experience no other game out there is able to give you. Sure, there are other first person sandbox games out there, but do they offer the exact same gameplay mechanics that Fallout 3/4 or TES offers?

That's why I think Bethesda has a strong fanbase. Because even though their writing is shit, even though their worlds are extremely scaled down and propped full of repetition, even though the RPG mechanics keep being stripped away; They're still offering a very specific gameplay experience no other series out there offers.

Let me put that into context. We have many top down shooters out there on the market. But Hotline Miami is unique. No other top-down shooter has the exact combination of elements that it does. The Miami style, the music, the way the game feels like an acid-trip, the ambiguous narrative, the way doors work, the way enemies work, the way weapons work, the way your character's playstyle can change depending on the mask/character.

Nuclear Throne is another top-down shooter which I have a hate/love relationship with but it is also completely unique in what it offers. They're both top-down shooters but the way they work are very different from one another.

Even if other studios out there produce first person sandbox RPG's unless they produce something that is a 1:1 copy of Bethesda's design (only better) those fans will still cling to Bethesda they are the only ones who provide what they demand.

I love cRPG's but just cause I love cRPG's does not mean I will automatically love every single one of them. It's all about the combination of ideas that make the perfect whole. Fallout 1/2 for example, what other cRPG out there is truly providing the exact same experience that they do? Wasteland 2 doesn't. It's far more like Fallout Tactics than 1/2. Underrail comes close (very very close) but it is still doing its own thing. There hasn't been any series out there that I feel could "replace" Fallout 1/2 for me.

Difference between me and the Bethesda fans is that Bethesda is still providing what they want. I've accepted that I will never get the exact same experience again. It's over. But Bethesda fans still get what they demand, so why wouldn't they defend them? They don't really care about the writing, the RPG mechanics or consistent world design. They care about the other things, the smaller things which combined make up an experience unique to Bethesda.

Anyway, to make this short, what has Bethesda done that no one else has done better? The combination of certain gameplay elements that add up to that unique Bethesda experience.

It's a style I have a hard time putting my finger down on but I see it is there and I see that no one else has been able to provide any true alternative.

So by this logic, has Bethesda lost their care for fans, their business acumen or their minds with the release of Fallout 4 which has alienated just about everyone?
(Except for the most stubborn of fans who are likely in denial)

They allinated fans since the release of Morrowind. Each new game they release is based on a whole new concept - albeit with the same formula of their open world/simplification process.
There have been many Daggerfall fans which actually didn't like what Morrowind did to the series, just as how many of us Morrowind fans didn't like Oblivion, and Oblivion fans with Skyrim and so on.
Bethesda, as company, I think gives no flying fuck about their fanbase, as long millions of gamers buy their games.

I don't think Bethesda has cared for its fans for a long time. It's more like they've been trying to avoid pissing them off too much. If they cared about fans then TES and Fallout would never have gone down the roads the way they did. Bethesda cares about sales, that is clearer with Fallout 4 than any other of their titles. The amount of stuff they've been ripping off from other successful titles out there is jawdropping to me. So they don't give a shit about their fans, they just don't want to upset them too much and risk losing out on sales. They upset some with Fallout 4. We'll see how that turns out for TES VI.

Oh and I think this is a mind-set for Bethesda: For every fan we lose so long as we get two new fans then it's A-okay.

They can't continue to aim for the lowest common denominator forever though; I think they might have reached an equilibrium with Skyrim when it comes to appeasing fans and raking in money after all it's one thing to alienate fans of Daggerfall/Fallout, they're properties that aim for a very small demographic, but once you alienate the Skyrim fan who in the fuck are you going to sell to?

COD fans, crafting fans, romance sim fans and kids who don't have much gaming experience/history.

They'll just go on to make the Fallout MMO forever. MMO fans are unquenchable in their thirst for more, so that'll sustain Bethesda forever, and they can focus the rest of their efforts on the Elder Scrolls, which will remain as it is because as evidenced by Skyrim, it sells. That, or they move onto MMOs for both IPs. Realise that Konami threw away their entire gaming history in favour of pachinkos and are still making money. There's always someone to sell to, as long as you've got the right thing to sell.
Well, World Of Warcraft has been in a decline ever since the expansion that came after Wrath Of The Lich King. It's still alive, but it is clear that WOW is slowly dying.

Their overworlds are usually well done, except for the part where they still have no central governing power after 200 years, that shit makes no sense.
I gotta disagree with that. The overworld comes down to more than just how it looks, such as enemy placement and civilized area designs. And enemy placement is just absurd, I mean, remember how in Arizona prior to the Legion a caravan could barely go between towns lest they be raided? Yeah, that's the east coast and Skyrim, constantly. It's absurd how many enemies there are around the world. And the scaling down of "cities" and "towns" also feels poorly designed to me. Every time I go to a Bethesda game "city/town" it breaks my immersion and I think to myself "this place is too small, there are too few people walking around, none of this makes any damn sense".

Maybe the rest of the world outside of these two things can look neat. But the overworld 'design' is horrible to me. Too scaled down, too compact with shit constantly attacking/distracting you. I don't like it.

It looks nice if you don't think about it too much and just appreciate the scenery of a location without moving around. But the moment you start walking down that road an enemy will pop up, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, then another, oh and here's a caravan that hasn't been wiped out somehow, magically... Let's keep on going! Oh another enemy... And another... Then another... And more... And here's a behemoth... But ah, finally we've reached the jewel of the area! The biggest population! And it got a whopping 4 dozen NPC's.

It's about the world as a whole to me, and Bethesda's worlds are not well designed. They're too scaled down.

Because all of those people are going to rush to Bethesda for the best shooting/crafting/romancing experience? I don't think Bethesda's competent enough to make the new COD/Minecraft/Hatoful Boyfriend.

Bethesda is exactly one of the companies that make me want to walk up to that place in a modified Dreadnought mech suit and just knock some serious sense into them.
