STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (HUGE SPOILERS EVERYWHERE)

I saw this movie last night and I'm still in shock with what I saw. MY ... GOD, the movie is an atrocity.

I can´t stop thinking about why the First Order did not jump two destroyers in front of the rebels.

They should replace the soundtrack of every chase in space scene with this one

I guess something that also helped to ease his mind, that someone came to him after 40 years telling him that he was a relevant actor again and giving him tons of money for it. Same with Carry Fisher and Harrison Ford.

Not that I am blaming him. Just saying that this is probably something that might be a part of it as well.

Saw it last night, and I still hold the opinion that the Disney Star Wars films are just as egregious as the prequels, but for completely different reasons. I will never accept a version of Luke Skywalker that would consider killing a sleeping child acceptable.

The next movie will have timeskip, my guess. 5 years, maybe.

So the flying princess will have died, Ben may be a badass and Rey B cup will be a experienced user of the force.

Someone there would think that of the original party, only Chewie would be left for that third? :freak:

Reading all these, all I can say is:

Just say the collapse of Empire created a great chaos, which so many warlords, rump states, even former Alliances are fighting among themselves, and you will have "lots of war" for movie every year....

Yet, they created the first order.......

The First Order is fine, the problem is we have no context for them whatsoever.

Let me re-write the opening crawl:

STAR WARS
EPISODE NINE
THE FORCE AWAKENS

THE GALACTIC CIVIL WAR has ended not with a bang but a whimper. THE EMPIRE surrendered to the NEW REPUBLIC and gave up half of its territory in exchange for peace. An uneasy peace has existed for the past thirty years. Now the Empire is known as THE FIRST ORDER and is ruled by a mysterious dark side wizard known as SUPREME LEADER SNOKE.

Suspecting the First Order is not content to allow the peace-loving people of the galaxy to live free, GENERAL LEIA ORGANA SOLO has created a bold RESISTANCE to fight against the First Order's operatives on their planets as well as the worlds they influence. Many former Rebels and new heroes have joined her.

Recently, rumors of a powerful new warlord called KYLO REN have reached the ears of the General and fearing his identity, has sent out her best pilot, POE DAMOREN to seek out her brother LUKE SKYWALKER to help fight against him.

Having retreated from the galaxy decades ago, Luke Skywalker's deeds have become legend and the First Order scrambles to prevent the light of the Jedi from returning...

There, all the information you'd need without changing more than a few lines.

Indeed. There, we would have a better idea of the scale of the conflict. In the current situation, when the first order loses a dreadnought, I have no idea if it's a problem or not. Maybe it cripples their entire military capacity, maybe they just need to bring another one from another sector to compensate for the loss. Since the movie doesn't care about context, I don't know if anything in the conflict matters, and yet I'm expected to care about it. As you just showed, it doesn't take much to actually fix that.

Although, to be fair, they did a better job at showing the scale of the resistance : a handful of ships at most. Even the rebel alliance had more men. But then, that's something else I don't understand. With the new republic restored, there would be no need for resistance. If anything, the first order would be the resistance, not the other way around. Leia should have access to the republican fleet and army by the beginning of "the force awakens". And even if she doesn't, for whatever reason, the movies clearly establish that the resistance is funded by the republic and has enough funds to actually deal with big weapons merchants, so their tiny scale is still confusing.
Why the first order still exists after declaring war on the galaxy and immediately loosing the starkiller, that remains to be seen. Maybe the third movie will get into that.

I wonder if JJ Abrams was expecting us to see the War on Terror and expect that to fill in the blanks.

The First Order and New Republic are at peace except for the proxy war being fought by the latter with Leia's group.

The problem is ALL information comes from General Hux's speech and I don't think audiences realized we were to assume it was all accurate the way Tarkin's dialogue in ANH was.

After spending years fighting the empire Luke finally became a responsible young man, not just becoming a strong fighter but also learning to forgive and lead, talking his father out of the dark side and saving him, Han Solo learned to open up to others and to fight for causes bigger than himself and Leia finally lead the Galaxy into peace.
THus 30 years later Luke decides immediately to kill his nephew because he might be tempted by the dark side and his subsequent failure makes him give up on life entirely while the Empire 2.0 returns with another Spherical superweapon, Storm troopers in white and lead by an old man and his Black armor clad Jedi of Skywalker descent, Han Solo meanwhile abandons everyone and goes back to being a lone wolf and Leia just keeps leading a paramilitaristic organization well into her 70s.

The movies are so rehashed they made the originals Pointless too.

With that kind of cyclical narrative, I now kinda wish Kreia did succeed in killing the Force in KOTOR 2.

If anything, the Galaxy would have been forced to stop being trapped in a cycle of Light side vs Dark side. Even if everyone else were dead and the OT would have been retconned out of existence....

Walpknut, I could write a long response on what you said and why I think that that is one of the reasons why I find Disney's new trilogy so poor, but the short answer is; yes we don't see any kind of "evolution" or change in the Star Wars universe in any form.

I don't like the Prequels very much because of George Lucas' character and dialogue writing but at least we how the SW galaxy was before the rise of the Empire and the Republic's change into it.

This is also why I like Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy. It showed how the main characters and the Alliance changed after the battle of Endor, the rebellion trying to establish a new Republic, and the Empire now being the people that seek to topple the established order, resorting to more and more desperate tactics in order to do so. (taking Jedi Knigh, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, and The Hand of Thrawn into account)
