Syndicate rebooted as (surprise) an FPS

it destroys the future.

No seriously now. Try to think about the Ninja turtles. What jumps in to your mind ? Surely not some RPG with necrophile and violance that is if I remember correctly how the turtles started. Not as MC- Donalds Happy meal friendly mutants. That is what they are today.

Think about it what will people think about Fallout in 10 years ?

RPG? It was an underground comic book. Anyway current day Turtles are 20xx dark and edgy.
Sorry to rain on your analogy.

I'm sorry to hear that a bad sequels somehow destroys your original copies.

Hurray! I was wondering how far we'd go before someone would make this asinine point, which completely misses the issue here, which is about the lack of variation and risk-taking in the game industry.

Lack of variation is prevalent in every media form today. The economy is in shambles and until we dust off our knees and keep powering forward the entertainment industry is not going to take risks

Awesome. And that has what to do with us, exactly? That prevents us from being justified in being derisive of this how, exactly?

Back in my 3DO phase I was a HUGE fan of this series. There were very few games that I always felt were untouchable. Well:

Fallout - raped
Shadowrun (Genesis)- murdered then raped
Syndicate - raped
Diablo - sexually assaulted at the very least

Planescape, Flashback and Arcanum, you better remain very very quiet.

I'm sorry to hear that a bad sequels somehow destroys your original copies.

In addition to everything that's mentioned, it destroys the series by pretty much ensuring that another such good game will never happen in it, especially if the new one appeals to whatever average gamer is nowadays and sells well.

The essence and whatever made the series important gets lost and replaced by something a lot less special.

I will be honest, I loved Syndicate + American Revolt to death. The game is huge and friggin' good to play.
I didn't liked Syndicate Wars too much, but the game had a context and didn't deviated from the frenchise.

I never understood this back in the day and I still don't understand. The same negative sentiment exists about Dungeon Keeper 2.

IMO both DK2 and Swars are prime examples of great sequels, they did everything their predecessors did and improved upon them + they used the best technology that was available at the time (3D graphics, sexy destructible environment in swars, better audio, multiplayer,...)

That's exactly what I would love to see in a new Syndicate (or DK or...)

Alas we will most likely get another popamole FPS that apart from being set in 'the same universe' has absolutely nothing in common with the original games. :(

if you substitute the name for FEAR4, nobody would ever know.
That's what the new Syndicate looks.

What a shame. :(

I agree.

It's unreasonable to think that devs would stick their heads on the line ATM. So if you dislike the new syndicate game, go ahead and dislike it to the high heavens, that's your God given right. But don't get mad because it isn't an RTS when no RTS (outside of very established brands sells enough these days.

As BN and others stated before, if "your" game has nothing at all in common with previous titles in a series don't call it Fallout 3 euhm I mean Syndicate 3.

Also WTF does the "state of the economy" have to do with any of this?
People are still creating (and selling) original art, books, music, movies, games,... they are also still releasing shitty art, books, music, movies, games,... just like they always have and always will.

As someone who still enjoys the old Syndicate games, this is NOT the direction Syndicate needs to take. But, I can't say I'm to surprised honestly. If you want to play it safe, you have to make a FPS, but even then it's not a 100% chance of success.

So you admit your point about publisher money numbers are in fact irrelevant for consumer response? Good. That's two points you've made so far in this thread that are asinine. Got any more?

The lack of variety and risk taking predates the economic downturn. I'd also point out that the video game industry hasn't been hit very hard by the recession.

So awsom a shooter finally another shooter and it looks tewtally like deus ex whih is awsom and now they got a trailer with DUBSTEP AWESOME

Finally, Syndicate as we always wanted it.

I like Dubstep but that was rather weak. To be fair the Syndicate Wars intro had heavy techno music. :V
They appear to have forgot to add Syndicate to that trailer. Guessing they couldn't fit it in after all the F.E.A.R/Deus Ex footage.
Well at least there was A minigun and A trench coat.

The music is actually great, really nostalgic (mostly remixes of old Syndicate music) up until 0:46 or so then it just turns into WUB WUB WUB WUUUUUUUB WUB WUB WUB.

Such a shame.

I know people seem to love the new Deus Ex and this trailer looks like it but what a fucking turd! This series were never Deus Ex, they were tactics games for very different reasons, not because of choices on how you will clear a room or whether you shoot someone or make them shoot themselves via implants.

Also, the levels look like Mass Effect 2. Where is the free roaming on the actual futuristic streets? Where is taking cover behind passing civilian vehicles, blowing shit up creating panic, demolishing buildings? And again with some dumbass dramatic story probably. Nothing was wrong with just being an evil corporation looking out for its interests.
