The Art of Fallout 4 preview

That's the issue. I guess they get rid of the real firearms in order to make people use those custom weapons. It could be like Dead Space 3, and most combinations are junk.

The whole weapons crafting really reminds me of borderlands. Same weapon slightly different stats. The melee weapon crafting looks even worse. There are only 2 stats - damage and weight, and each mod gives slightly bigger damage with some benefits like armor piercing from mod to mod. The way I see it they made so many mods with small differences so that the player spend more time scavenging scrap to constantly upgrade his weapons.

Damage, weight, value, fire rate, accuracy and additional effects it carries too like causes target to bleed.

If only they hadn't scrapped all skills, dumbed down dialogue and perks and forced a vocie protagonist, the Weapon crafting looks fun but the rest of the stupid shit they pulled more than counters it....

Only to find enough scrap to build a mod that'll give even more damage, but without the additional benefits just to suffice enough until you find more scrap for another mod that'll slightly more damage but with different additional benefits. That's what I meant by constantly scavenging to upgrade your weapons. Doesn't that remind you of borderlands?

Ah Borderlands 2, current weapon doesn't suffice so you'll have to wait until a weapon with slightly better stats becomes available. Rinse and repeat.

Borderlands 2 WITH 87 BAZILLION GUNS for you to collect. Oh what fun... if you got nothing else to do with your free time.

87 BAZILLION GUNS with SLIGHTLY better stats and feel like the same weaker copy and paste crap that you've been currently using. I feel like they spent all the budget on this and the crappy voice acting, then it becomes "Gun Customization: The Game".

If repair and guns skills were used to determine things about the crafted weapons in addition to just being level caps before you could craft them, it would be even more interesting.

Imagine a percentage chance to upgrade the weapon and have it increase a stat on the weapon within a range determined by your skill and luck and the quality of the components you used.. A dice roll per se, to see if you increased the rate of fire by 10-20% or the damage by between 5-10 points. That could be great and add variety and it would give you a reason to collect X number of whatever widget you need to do the upgrade in order to find the best possible parts, not just 2 pieces of "scrap metal" of unknown shape, constitution and quality.

It could really make for a cool mechanic, if they cared about chance and dice rolls and skills affecting your character's actions and items not just being generic thingies were this one is the exact same as that one except for how broken it is as determined by a single stat.

IF they cared..

Without more info it's hard to tell how they intend to implement the crafting from pictures alone, but I really pray they didn't go the way of borderlands/dying light and a couple others, where you just have weapon after generic weapon with a +1 stat being the only difference and customizations being silly enchantments like "add poison/shock/magic damage to weapon"

This is why I've been telling people on Bethesda's forums over and over again that the number of mods are inflated as fuck. Hell, haven't I posted imgur pics on here showing the obvious evidence of repetitive 'tier' mods that only enforce the idea of either two things:

-Grind like borderlands make your life miserable.

-save your resources for Tier 4 and get bored.

Just like with perks, you can easily have 10k mods when you don't give a shit about making them different.

Quality over quantity, they just want to be able to say "Look we have over 10,000 mods!"
Then someone reasonable responds with "How many are unique, useful, and not copy and paste?"
Bethesda's reply? Probably "But we have over 10,000 of them which means more is better!"

They already add fire and electric to the Junk Jet.

Bethesda loves fantasy elemental weapons.

I don't know guys, of all the numerous, stupid and backwards shit and flaws this game has I dont think the weapon crafting is one of them, if skills still existed this would've greatly improved on Skill usage and implementation.

The question is if it adds depth though. But for that you need a few more stats working in the background, like speed, penetration, different types of damage, blunt, cuting, piercing etc.

Than I could totally see a situation where an elaborated upgrade and modification system could really shine! And you could keep melee weapons even usefull against heavily armored adversaries. A weapon made for cuting mainly, like a knive/sword beeing completely ineffective, but as soon you get a warhammer type of weapon with enough blunt trauma you can crack those armored targets open. You would encourage players to have 2 or even 3 different types of weapon with them to use them on different types of enemies.

I doubt Bethesda would put that much depth, I mean Damage Resistance is confirmed to be back in all it's mediocre self.

Omgz how awesomesauce a gun that can shoot aaanything, that's so cuuuh-raaazy and so inventive, EVEN TEDDY BEARS, lol, how silly you guys!
Everything should be awesome!
Round a corner, and walk right into awesome!
Turn around, and behold teh awesome!
If there's nothing but awesome, then all of it will be awesome!
Wait, what!? It's gonna be just like that!? AWESOME!!!

I still don't like the weapon customization for only one thing, absence of logic. I find it hard to believe someone can make military grade laser and plasma weaponry out of household toys. It's cool but stupid too.
