It was maybe the weakest, but it was good enough to warrant more seasons. I think your taste just sucks :P.
In all hoensty though, shitty is a pretty strong word in my opinion, which I would use to describe maybe Fallout 4, and not a whole TNG season. But I see your point.

There must still have been strong enough elements in Season 1 to convince the executives and higher ups to give TNG another season.
Rather lucky to because I think this was around the time that most networks pretty much canceled series if they did not well during the first season, especially science fiction which has always been a niche genre on television.

Don't get me wrong. It was definitely entertaining enough to warrant another season it just pales in comparison to the later episodes. Some of the worst offenders were partly due to the writers strike and a tight budget.

Starting season two now...

Yeah, the budget jumped quite a bit season two. This is more like it.

Check out netflix, I was watching a doc about TNG and its first few seasons (Chaos on the bridge) Interesting stuff, lots of drama and one particular shiesty lawyer.

Season 2 Episode 08 "A Matter of Honor"

What I never understood though, why so many people hate Wesley Crusher. I mean sure, he is a somewhat obnoxious, smart ass with a father complex who gets the enterprise a few times in trouble with his childish naivity. But outside of that.

The whole hating Wesley Crusher is sort of a meme I think. It's the 'in' thing for some Star Trek fans.
Yeah Roddenberry did try to raise himself on a pedestal when he came up with Crusher, the sort of 'misunderstood child genius' version of himself, Wheaton did not deserve to suffer for that.
Now for he does himself is his own problem.

Wesley as a character was just poorly written. He didn't really bring anything to the table, he fell for any girl that looked at him funny, and was more in the way than anything else. Though the episode where that VR game got them off was cool, and should be the aspiration of all those VR companies.

That episode was pretty awesome. But It must have been funny for the actors, spasming and thinking about drugs while wearing those silly gadged on their head.

Jesus the first season of Next Generation was bad. There was one episode in particular that was really bad.

I love how you can clearly see that Riker was replaced by a stuntman when the possessed admiral mercilessly beats his shit in.

And how Worf (or was it La Forge... or both, can't remember really), when respoding to Riker calling security, actually buys it when the admiral tells him that he fell.

Best episode of the first season by far.

Man I loved Sliders, they really went a bad direction in later seasons though. Also to add to the list of TNG season 1 missteps is how they started trying to make the Ferangi badass only to retcon them into greedy little cowards.

The Ferengi are badass!

Because there is no reason for a brilliant captain such as Picard to keep a somewhat obnoxious smart ass with a father complex who keeps getting the Enterprise in trouble on board.

Maybe to bone his mother, but imagine how annoying Wesley must be as a cockblocker.

I wish I had seen this thread sooner. I have a friend who has never been a ST fan start watching TNG recently from the Pilot onward and getting to see someone more or less naked on the series experience it for the first time is fascinating. lol

My personal list is as follows:
1 - DS9
2 - TNG
3 - TOS
4 - VOY
5 - ENT

TNG and DS9 are really close for me but ultimately the characters and the deconstruction of some of the federation ideals in DS9 is both funny as hell and interesting from an in-universe perspective. DS9 also has a ton of TNG-like episodes in the first few seasons if I'm ever interested in light Scifi nonsense.

I ended up watching TOS just a few years ago and I really loved the series and in terms of favorite episodes franchise wide, a lot of them come from TOS. On the flip side of that though some of the worst garbage fires come from TOS as well, the series ultimately has both the highest highs and lowest lows for me.

Then there is Voyager and Enterprise, I loved Voyager as a kid but man that series largely turns to shit in the eyes of an adult. I barely watched Enterprise durring its TV run but man those first two seasons are terrible, 3 and 4 were much better but not enough obviously. These series both share in having a ton of wasted potential and its pretty sad looking back on what they could of been versus what we got.

Hey guys and girls,

I would like to show you all one of my most favorite possessions; my Star Trek comic book collection.

I started collecting Star Trek comics back during 1998 when Marvel owned the comic book license, unfortunate I just started to read their books around the time that they were loosing the Star Trek license.
It allowed me to catch up on the series of course including the multi series crossover "Telepathy War" but also made me realize which promising series would now never be continued such as Marvel's own original creations Starfleet Academy which was basically a companion series to DSN and the TNG movies, and Early Voyages that was set before the original series and proved to be a much better prequel than Enterprise ever was.

When Wildstorm started to publish Star Trek comics a couple of years later I immediately jumped onboard and bought all the mini series, specials and deluxe albums before Wildstorm lost the license again, sadly to soon IMO.

Then IDW started publishing Star Trek comics and I also started to collect these.
Sadly after a while I realized that I was not enjoyed IDW's Star Trek material as much as that ofthe previous publishers.
Sure they had some very good mini series, but sadly also a lot of junk. Many of the mini series stories were just recycling stuff from earlier Star Trek comics or the television series or told such poor stories that I felt I had wasted good money on them. The ones that were suppose to tie into a bigger overall story never really did so or it was just pulled out of nothing in the last issue.

When IDW started to focus on the comics based on the new movies which I did not like I decided the time had come to drop Star Trek comics in general with exception of the New Visions comic which are still enjoyable.

I have made several photos of my favorite runs and mini series I want to show you.
Unfortunate there were some problems with glare and I also messed up another one by having the hold cord attached to my camera get into the picture. I will correct that one tomorrow by making a new photo.
