Baldur's Gate III

I really hope it won't be as formulaic like divinity original sin 2. Even if I think it was better than Pillars of Eternity, I think PoE had the better "map design" so to speak. If only for the fact that you could actually travel over the map like in Baldurs Gate. It felt like a coherent world. In Divinity I realised after the second chapter, oh, it's just a big square of a map and the principle is always the same with "starter" quests. It simply felt like going trough a check list rather than actually exploring a world.

I am pretty confident that we will see an elder brain.
It's not unprecedented seeing as BG2 had an elder brain present in one level.

Same, it sort of works for Divinity for me as it does open my mind to dragging a barrel/chest from one area to another due to how much freedom it has but for Baldur's Gate, I do hope they are able to make it feel like a world even if it means dividing their usual large areas into parts ala the original saga.

Looks promising!

I don't expect a Baldurs Gate style game much like Fallout 3 isn't 1 + 2 but I'm happy to just be back in Faerun.

I am a Baldurs Gate fan, but it amuses me that Baldurs Gate fans are complaining BG3 could be to similar to Divinity games, even though the Divinity games are probably one of the closest adaptions of table top sessions on a PC.

Shows how fans can get in the way of their game franchises ...

Plz. Don't remind me ... The first time I played BG2 I almost fucked up big time by entering the illithid dungeon instead of just going for the Kuo-toa prince blood. The quest you're starting here is timed, and I had to rest to often inside the illithid dungeon just to realise that I failed the quest. Luckily I had a save game where I didn't started the quest yet ... but it was hours of play time I had to repeat again. Still a good experience.

I love it when games allow you to fuck up. But god. illithids ... I hate fighting them. More than dragons. That was before I knew about all the quirks and rules of the game. So I would summon thousands of minions and just rush those fuckers in the hope that I kill them before they could mind control everyone.

Though I really hope that BG3 will allow you for some really crazy combinations and ideas. Like years later I have red about someone who used effects to lower the natural magic resistance of Dragons and then using spells to petrify them - that was before the Internet made looking for clues easy. Petrifying a fucking Dragon! My teenage mind went nuts over that idea after I got my ass handed back to me by those giant lizards so many times and I simply brute forced my way trough them with the warrior party.

I am fucking triggered that it's turn based. I really enjoy real time with pause. It gives it that chaotic feel to combat that it needs instead of people just standing in their spots reading the news while waiting for their turn.

Something about RTwP just doesn't click for me. I like to know who is doing what and that it happens in this turn order. Not the random cooldown like stuff or attacks per 1.5 second thing or anything like that. Just too much for me to consider and I don't necessarily know what the enemy's stats on that might be. Turn based allows me to know what will have the potential to happen mostly.

I still enjoy games with RTwP but I'd prefer games to have less fights with less enemies and be turn based. Turn based sucks when it comes to way too many enemies showing up or like Boneyard in Fallout with the bystanders just taking turns running around.

They are completely different design principles offering you different kinds of gameplay, if deployed correctly. I am not saying every Turn Based game has to be good just because it is Turn Based. However, Turn Based combat allows you for a different gameplay and different decisions within the combat. Take excellent Turn Based games like Jagged Alliance or Silent Storm. Those games give you gameplay mechanics that can not be really achieved that easily in a real time or real time with pause game. Like initiative for example or interrupting enemy attacks. RTwP is way to hectic to actually allow for a deliberate use of such tactics because you would have to pause each time it happens to actually exploit it ... but then you would force the game to a crawl and you could have simply made it Turn Based from the beginning ...

Honestly, I am interested. Being able to create my own characters for DnD 5e is already a huge selling point.

Now, if they add races and classes I play, create good DM mode, allow homebrew and stick as close as possible to the ruleset I would be tempted to buy it.

Of course, I will wait for release date, expansions and such. Still, looks good thus far.

I'm not hot about the Mind Flayer arc. I want the Hells.

Your probably not going to get it as the previous table top module for D&D, Descent into Avernus, already had the players go into the Hells. Baldur's Gate 3 takes place immediately after the Descent into Avernus campaign.

But it could still be a part of the game to visit the realms of the 9 hells and the like?
Well the games description on Steam said you will be dealing with both devils and deities but I don't think you will be going to the Hells. It seems like Baldur's Gate 3 will focus more on the Sword Coast and The Underdark.

So like Baldurs Gate 2. I hope that we will see some Refences to BG1/2 and the expansions. Nothing to crazy. But as far as I remember Throne of Baal was supposed to be Baldurs Gate 3 at some point anyway but since that was cancelled they made it in to an expansion to finish the story of the Baal spawn. Would be interesting to know what happend with some of the locations you visited in BG2. Maybe even seeing some characters again. Some of the characters you can meet is a Silver Dragon and they are known for long lives. Doesn't have to be crazy, but some ester egg here and there a little side story.
