GTA V

"A bit" improved. I like to understate things.

I appreciate how they're trying to improve graphics even further, but to be honest I was completely blown away by GTA IV's graphics, I thought they were pretty damn amazing. The graphics jump from San Andreas to GTA IV was quite huge in my opinion.

And right now as I'm playing Vice City, graphics have come a looong way :)

I've been playing GTA 3 recently, and I have to say, I love the graphics. But the hands need work. You can't take your eyes off the hand.

i remember GTA 4 when it was released.

all the reviewers said it was awesome and a huge leap in gaming.

then it was released. it sold millions. then people started talking about it.

massive cut scenes. hugely linear missions where if you did not play it exactly perfect to how it was designed, you failed. like the chase scenes.

and then PC players started playing it. and oh boy it was bad. even people with seriously over the top 5 grand computers complaining about performance issues. and not little hiccups.

made me glad i never bought it.

and i doubt i will buy GTA 5 either.

well, rockstar completely screwed pc players with their release of GTA 4, and everyone with some of their missions.

and yet what do i see, a 13 page thread with people talking about it and making me think they are going to buy it.

i am reminded of bethesda. they keep releasing the same old crap that gets largely panned by people here and massive bugs and issues, and people keep buying them.

people always say "vote with your wallet" and i have chosen to do so.

i dont buy GTA games. and i have no intention of buying skyrim until it is $20, if even then.

if you dont vote with your wallet, these companies have zero incentive to change the way they do business. at this point, i have been dissapointed overall with badlands 2. guess how likely it is i will pay anything close to full price for 3.

I wouldn't say GTA 4 is crap simply because it doesn't run as well on a PC than than it does on a console. Like I said in a different thread, I'm getting a PS3 and I was wondering if I should get New Vegas as the standard or ultimate edition. Many people said that it doesn't run so well on a PS3 as it does on a PC or an Xbox. Well, tough luck on me. But I have to deal with it whether I want to or not because my PC is awful for gaming and I would have to spend a lot of money for a good gaming PC. If you hate GTA 4 because it runs shit on a PC, tough luck.

Very poor comparison. New Vegas doesn't run well on a ps3 because the horrible way the Gamebryo engine was built and the horrible way the PS3 hardware was designed are conflicting. GTA4 doesn't run well on pc because of a poor port job. There's nothing that can be done about gamebryo on ps3 short of rewriting the entire engine. The problems with gta4 on pc could have been solved in two weeks with a half dozen programmers.

So do many of us. A lot of us just don't agree with your assessment on how bad GTA IV is, or alternatively found it redeemed by EFLC. Ballad for Gay Tony is the best GTA since Vice City. I'll keep an eye on if they learned from it for GTA V but hell yeah I'm going to buy GTA V. Rockstar makes really good games.

I didn't buy Max Payne 3 coz they changed it into a cutscene-fest, though. I don't like shoddy ports, and will often wait for discounts for 'em, but it'd have to be pretty damn bad for me to boycott. GTA IV was mostly just horribly optimized.

GTA IV was just a terrible port. Patch 1.0.7.something fix'd most of the performance issues (Sadly not all of 'em)

Story was nice, especially in both DLC's (Those are quite long and really entertaining) and MP is a lot of fun.
But even after all the patches a lot of people complained on GTA IV just because it wasn't San Andreas. You no longer could go to gym or get fat by eating cluckin' bell food. There was no gang warfare or black G's so all the kids started to complain how bad the game is. I had a lot of fun with it, despite the fact I was missing stuff like car tuning, property buying or more character customization. It might be matter of taste.

oh i havent played it. i just remember the huge bitchfest over how badly it was ported.

and while it may be decent now after however many patches, i am just not that interested at this point. i have other games to engage my interest.

Kinda pointless to say how bad it is if you never PLAYED it... Limited exposure is at least acceptable, because most assumed that limited exposure combined with a poor review means that it was SO BAD you couldn't stand playing it for long. But ZERO exposure just means you're either making stuff up, or listening to the opinions of others who have no credibility. I kept my opinions about the garbage that is Michael Moore's fact-void propaganda-fest, Fahrenheit: 9/11, until I actually saw it. I didn't WANT to see it, and it was nauseating to watch such evil lying, but I knew I had no right to criticize it until I actually watched it...

Yeah, GTAIV had a couple steps backwards, but also a TON of great steps forward. All the bitching was really just fanboyism- unfounded, nonsensical complaining, not valid criticism. As a PS3 player, I had every "right" to join the bitchfest of fanboys who felt cheated by the Microsoft deal that excluded us from the DLC... except I was exceptionally pleased with the game, AND we eventually gained access to that DLC anyway. So I'm glad I kept my wits about me, and ignored those fanboys. Still, besides base jumping, the DLCs didn't "return" all the features from San Andreas back to GTAIV, so they've kept on bitching... Jesus Christ, it's as if they feel like GTAIV's existence means you can NEVER play SA ever again..!

Yeah, it's like they wanted all that game had to offer but with all the improvements GTA4 did. The nerve!

Well, uh, I actually thought SA was the weakest GTA until IV came along. They both had rather crucial flaws that separate them from the heights of VC, just going into opposition directions. Gay Tony strikes the right balance, and I hope V does too. I don't see why every GTA would have to be as expansive and multi-faceted as San Andreas. Within a few strict confines, why shouldn't the franchise have some leeway? We're not talking going from Fallout 2 to 3 here, in how much they changed.

Oh, personally I'm talking only of the improvements to the controls and certain mechanics that GTA4 brought along. Asking for a 1:1 recreation of everything SA had to offer is stupid.

That said, GTA4 was too constricted, it had less stuff than Vice City FFS.

my exposure was to people ranting about how badly it played on the PC.

yes, that will color my opinion of a game.

shame on me!

I played xbox360 and PC version, PC version runs and looks AND controls way better. This statement was even true for my older dual core system with gts 250 card while playing unpatched game version, it runs like a fucking charm now on my newer PC that is still long way from being high-end (i5-2320 with GTX460). And no way would I want to experience awesomeness that is a 30 person Team Mafiya Work game with a gamepad in my hand.. Oh wait, console version doesn't even allow that many people.
I will never understand people who never touch a game yet still come to internet threads to complain about it. Not enough real problems?

What he said. But also:

Hey, I'm not saying "Don't let yourself be influenced by influences; how dare you!" Just saying that it's important to take a step back, and ruminate on the nature of the complaints you've been exposed to, and consider "Ya know what, I might just be copying others' second-hand accounts if I state an opinion of other than my own, because I don't really have any foundation to base my own opinion from."

As far as I'm concerned, GTAIII is the second best of the series, right behind IV, but that's my OPINION of of the matter. The series clearly got "better" mechanically over the years, since then, but III also set the standard by which the rest of the series would follow, and it was also my first GTA title that I played. Those just sorta cemented it as a great title, and GTAIV was the first to really break the mold (if only slightly), so the titles inbetween the two were more "copycat" than either. But, of course, they were all creative, fun, and original in their own ways. It was a great series, and all the naysaying about GTAIV was really just fanboy baseless complaints. Yeah, it didn't have some of the in-depth features of SA, but it was still a phenomenal title. The functions were top-notch, the story was riveting and great, and the graphics were excellent. Even today, it's still riotous fun to play, even if the mild twists no longer surprise. It's a damn good game, and all those saying otherwise were really just hatin, and nothing more.

I don't want to have this discussion for the nth time, but let's just say that I disagree and lumping together all those that thought that GTA4 was lackluster just as haters is short sighted, to say the least.
