PSM3 Fallout 3 hands-on preview

Yeah. Horses could be kind of cool.

Unless there's something in the Fallout lore that contradicts them, that I am unaware of.

But, I don't see why horses couldn't be in. As long as there are cars and motorbikes too. Because just horses feels too Fantasy-ish, or even Planet of the Apes - ish.

That is quite true. Even though horses would make perfect sense, it would require careful consideration to make it not feel like you're just another generic fantasy character riding a generic horse that's been thrown into Fallout. I certainly don't trust Bethesda to be able to do it right.

Horses sound to damn Oblivionish...

After reading this, I pretty much am to the point of saying I won't be buying this game.

Fallout with a BFG? An enclave that you destroyed once, that somehow has a president and a whole fleet of virtibirds to swoop in as back up?

Forget it.

a robotic horse? jebus. horses should be highly mutated, iirc their chromosomes are highly vulnerable to radiation.

as in this hands-on is stated that deathclaws are mutated grizzly bears and NOT an artificial life form sprung from genetic experiments... sheesh. i do not recall every bit of fallout lore, but i think that was the story behind deathclaws.

and there ARE in fact horses in the fallout game: centaurs. at least thats the thing which comes nearest being a horse, i guess. riding a molerat? nahhh. or a wanamingo? doesnt compute. floaters? i dont want to look like a wow toon on this air guard mount.

id LOVE to ride a centaur. or an old, rotten norton or harley. that would be great.

anyway, reading all that hypery made me do a reality check by rereading this.

on another note, i like that reference to arcanum.

Actually horst,

Deathclaws are suspected to be mutated Jackson's chameleons.

Radscorpions are suspected to be mutant Emperor Scorpions.

I wonder what these two species are doing on the East coast.

travelled there. by horse.

edit: there are few mutated horses on the interweb.

... Robot horses are just... no, though.

Never did Oblivion, thanks to the true peer reviews.
Thanks again.
Don't have any concept of Oblivion beyond the spectacular marketing circus, then.
Now, it's the same B-soft and their third party associates continuing to dazzle and mushroom smoke for FO3.

Games might, ... but ---> Marketing, marketing never changes.

This linked 'Wonder Horse' is too serious a collectable, so has slow loading pic for dial up: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/clt/727662862.html
Yet gives reference to an alternate time and place, for ridable toy. Generic for that '50's - '60's consumer era.

Maybe the robot toy 'to be or not to be' in FO3 is not rolled in Oblivion sugar nor Barbie spice but maybe salted with mesquite in a cheesy western style nacho chip.

Sheriff Bart: Just give me 24 hours to come up with a brilliant idea to save our town. Just 24 hours. That's all I ask.
Townspeople: No!
Sheriff Bart: You'd do it for Randolph Scott.
Townspeople: Randolph Scott! [Singing as a chorus] Randolph Scott!
Howard Johnson: All right Sheriff. 24 hours.

Maybe ya' wouldn't cut Randolph Scott the slack to dangle in the breeze,
nor Roy Rogers the room to rope.
Still consider, before the western sun sets, The Red Ryder Limited Edition!

Really?!.... horses = fantasy? I must have a fucking fairy farm in my yard.

Seriously though.. horses are one of the classic PA forms of transporation. I think.. maybe the rifle and blasted out surroundings might be a clue you're not in a "generic fantasy". That's just assinine to say the existance of horses would make the game feel like a fantasy game. But then like assholes everyone has their own opinion.

no, it would make you feel like you are in a western movie. which is perfectly fine, it fits nicely into that dystopic rebuilding society from scratch theme. i really like that setting, i did like the tower books from stephen king too, and i think only for that matter.

but you will have a heck of a time finding an unmutated horse. i mean, even you run around with an extra toe!

If I had to guess, I'd say they're probably terrorizing some human settlements

Then couldn't they use local critters instead?

I am sure the US East Coast has its own collection of poisonous and trouble making beasties.

I think the thing that bugs me the most is just their utter lack of respect for the source material...

The enclave, deathclaws, super mutants, and ghouls are all examples of how little they regard the source material.

They wanted to make a PA game, but didn't want to be bothered with details like coming up with their own ideas for one.

Who says there's not new critters?

Then focus on those and don't bring everything from Fallout 1/2 back.

The setting is supposed to be different, right now the poles might as well have changed or some weapon changed the geography and put the East Coast next to the West Coast.

Who says there is? Bethesda certainly doesn't, and it's up to them to show us what is in the game.

There's that humanoid crab in the concept art that might be in the game, and the Behemoth, which we know is in the game.
