As for quality, I was given a room of my own, complete privacy, and no restrictions to visitors, I had a touch screen TV, and those beds with the remote control thing. My gf told me that it easily corresponded to private-hospital levels back in her Portugal.

And yes - this shit is paid for out of the tax-payers pocket - which kind of is the entire point (especially if the super-rich allow themselves to be taxed just like the rest of us plebs)

Okay, I'm done "politicizing the moment" now :D

I'm glad you're ok dude. And I actually know Norway is wealthier than my country so I'd expect them to take good care of you. Glad you're ok now.
Kurdish forces ally with Syrian gvt, in a compromise where survival as a people outweigh the desire for independence. That's rough.

Indeed. I watched the Joker just a few days ago, and I can't remember the last time a movie surprised and excited me to such a degree. "Incels gonna shoot up"-my ass, they're all worried we're gonna start shooting up the rich. I'm not :] honk honk :]

I hate to admit this, but I saw it three times already. I'm going to stop now and wait til it's out on dvd, but damn, I really really love that movie.
Whoa, zero results for "what's basement called" I'm the first Norwegian human in the history of internet, curious of the term for "basement"

@zegh8578 You mean what is a ship's basement called? A hold, maybe? In Norwegian you mean?

Come on community, team effort needed here to help out Zegh! :D
    zegh8578
    zegh8578
Yes, yes, in Norwegian :D I did come to "a hold" in English, but then "a hold" is impossible to google-translate to Nor, because "hold" means "to hold" in Norwegian. It always translates to - "to hold" "to hold a ship" "holding the ship" etc... It's very frustrating :D

I did find TWO lists of maritime terms, in Norwegian, and skimmed through both, as well as word-searched terms like "kjeller" etc, to see if something could match, but no luck
Norwegians using the open source synonym-dictionary "What? To run is not synonymous with to cook? We'll just see about that!" *edits entry*

Google translate is similar, based on user input, rendering most translations to just overly informal English loan-word soups

Glad I bookmarked the actual language council's website, with their dictionary- although they're a bit lacking in offering related words, etymologies etc.

Apart from hyperpowers like the US, I always find so eery when countries let themselves get accustomed to hostile conflict to the degree of posessing a military force with a lot of recent experience - or armed and active paramilitary groups like the Grey Wolves. There's an inherent savagery to it, that most "common sense" would suggest that we have shed in our modernity, but that clearly we have not

Heh, “shed in our modernity”. We’re a flawed creation, zegh. As long as there are shaved monkeys there will be war, and profiteering, and all that happy shit that comes with violence.

Oh, for sure. These are constant reminders, and so is geopolitics in general. Not to sound all "cynic edge", but geopolitics in particular perfectly demonstrate our hard, unrelenting, uncompromising biology, we overrun our opponents according to demand, and individual suffering drown in almost trivial political maneuvers and actions that blanket entire populations.

I just realized Norwegian does not have a word for 'amputee', we have to say the whole thing "person who has had a limb of theirs amputated"

I guess we got some older terms for things that might have been more common in the past, but I'm guessing those terms exist in any community that has experienced (or still do) ailments common with lack of modern medicine

Sucks if you're into Norwegian amputee porn. Gotta type in half a novel before you can pull your pud.

Why not just 'armless' or 'legless'?

Indeed! Not a day goes by that I do not appreciate my rather ambivalent attitude towards Jodie Foster, precisely because of that. Life is precious, and Jodie Foster is simply not worth throwing it all away for.

Pre-Contact Jodie Foster was awesome. Then she turned into a dyke with a political opinion. Whatever, Hollywood.

Most gaming magazines were good, back in the day.
Now most gaming sites suck. Anyone can be a gaming writer/"journalist", even people that don't like or play games.

Gaming magazines only seemed good because you didn't have any way to fact check them or compare them with anything else. They always sucked.

Maybe where you are. When I was young gaming magazines in my area were right on point.
They only showed pics of a game, what genre the game is, if it has any new concepts, etc.
Basically they would report on the games and what they actually were.
